“HMS Bulwark. I actually painted this picture in my hotel room in Guyana, during an England Tour to the West Indies. It rained for a week and I was running out of things to do to stop myself going crazy! I have to confess I had to guess the colours a little bit, because the photograph I had was black and white! But being a military nut from an early age I’ve studied plenty of military subjects. The picture was loaned to me by an old friend and Royal Marine Cyril Ralph, who served with the Commandos when they used HMS Bulwark as a landing ship. I asked him to check the detail of the picture when I returned home, fortunately he passed it with flying colours.”
